I will be in Saratoga Springs for a week the second week of May. Any suggestions on what to do around there? Any NY Oppos live in the area?

Saratoga Performing Arts Center is near there, may be concert going on. There is an auto museum by SPAC too!
Horse races are pretty big out there too if you’re into that.

Make sure you go to Nova Scotia for the total eclipse of the sun after your horse naturally wins.

The auto museum there is great! It’s on the small side, but they have good exhibits they rotate out. Last year was Mustangs, it looks like classic luxury is on display now.

I grew up in the area, like Sn210 suggested I’d go to the auto museum first. Make sure you don’t miss the 2nd floor with more static displays, a ridiculous amount of people ignore it. Downtown Saratoga usually has pretty good car spotting too if you sit on Broadway, Uncommon Grounds is an amazing coffee shop that you can watch from. The bar scene is pretty killer too on Caroline St. if you’re into that kind of thing, lots of reasonable booze and good music. Check out Druther’s too if you’re looking for a craft pint and some mac and cheese that’ll blow your mind.
God I miss that place, I need to move back ASAP. Hope you enjoy it mate!

I would also recommend the Saratoga Battlefield. You can drive through it and it’s huge. 2nd on Caroline St. I lived right above Aiko’s for a couple of years. I don’t remember much, since I could fall down the stairs and end up in 1 of 5 bars on the block!

Drink a LOT of beer, then go here and buy as many dough-boys as your wallet allows: http://esperantosaratoga.com/our-menu/

Damn I wish I had another 8 hours to drive up that would be worth it!
And talk about an old reference!

Considering I don’t have a lot to do the coffee shop idea sounds pretty intriguing thanks for the tip! I will check out the auto museum as well.
Unfortunately no go on alcohol. 8 more months!

I can’t believe I forgot about the battle of Saratoga that is a great suggestion. It sounds like the area has a great bar scene

In only 4 hours, you could go to Watkins Glen! I’m glad at least two people got the reference. I heard it on an oldies station on the radio (you know that thing cars soon won’t have) just a day or so ago so it was fresh in my mind. I stayed in a classic B&B in Saratoga once when the track was only running trotters, it’s a really pretty little town, I imagine more busy when the track’s running full force. The old Works Progress Administration buildings in the park, where I think the car museum is located (and one of the natural springs baths in them was still operational, or was years ago), are cool to see also. It was also the site of one of the important battles of the Revolutionary War; presumably there are things to see related to that, such as the actual fields where it took place. About 2 hours south on 87 from S.S. is New Paltz, and near that the Mohonk Mountain House Spa & Resort. It’s a fantastical 19th century luxury resort on cliffs over a lake in a nature preserve, nine buildings of varying architectural styles run together, one of my “I have to see this thing one of these days” places. I passed within a few miles of it last summer, but was on a long drive and had a long way to go still, my second near miss. Probably only makes sense if you are coming up / going back towards N.J./ NYC down 87 already, and I’d check their website, they seem to have a bunch of activities available, but charge for everything, a hiking day pass is $21 and lunch at one of the restaurants is apparently $61.

That’s a damn shame.
